SpectaCross returns to the New Jersey State Fair / Sussex County Farm and Horse Show on Friday and Saturday, August 6-7, 2010.  It’s a summer cyclocross, where you race in a 5,000 seat demo derby stadium next to the beer garden and monster truck rides.  There’s a 100% chance of mud, because the fair has agreed to pour thousands of gallons of water onto the arena before the races; and you’ll clean your bike next to ranchers washing their award-winning cattle.  Still not sure?  Talking about last year’s SpectaCross in Cyclocross Magazine, Dee Dee Winfield said, “Ken [Getchell] put on an awesome, pro event.” That’s pretty high praise from somebody who was competing in the Cyclocross World Cup in Koksijde, Belgium just months earlier.

It’s the poker run in the mud, with everybody on the track trying to accumulate the best poker hand in 45 minutes.  You get one card at the end of every lap, and the faster you go, the better your odds of winning.
